A selection of sustainable womens clothing, made using mud resist hand block printing (dabu printing). First stage is preparing the fabric; this takes 3 days and softens the fibres whilst increasing absorbency. Then a paste is made from river clay, the block is lightly dipped into a tray containing the mud and stamped onto the cotton in a repeat pattern. Once the entire length is completed, the fabric is left to dry in the sun. Final stage is pleating and stirring the fabric gently into a large 15ft deep natural dye vat. All the fabric is evenly dyed then stretched out in the sun to oxidise. Once completely dry the fabric can be washed and the pattern is revealed.
